Waco, Texas – Business leaders and politicians across the United States and around the world are being asked whether the Ebola crisis will affect business, but what will really matter to business leaders is the impact that the outbreak has on the global economy.
Waco, the capital of the state of Texas, has seen a surge in business activity and the city’s main hotel has been hit by a surge of visitors.
It has also become a breeding ground for virus-carrying mosquitos and a hub for Ebola victims.
There have been reports of a surge and a spike in visitors from the capital in recent days, with hotel rooms filling up in days, according to local media.
On Sunday, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said flights to and from the city were being diverted to nearby Austin, Texas, because of a risk of spreading the virus.
But for many, it will be business as usual in the US as long as the Ebola virus continues to infect and kill its victims.
“It will be a normal business day,” said Michael Gollan, head of global risk and compliance at Ernst & Young, a consultancy that advises companies on business and human resources.
“But it will probably be a very busy business day for business leaders and others who have to do business with the public,” he said.
“So you’ll be seeing more of this.”
He said the biggest impact on business in the next few weeks will be the impact on tourism.
“If you’re in the Waco area, I think the big thing is if you have a large group of visitors, then you’ll see a lot of cancellations.
It’s not going to be a problem for a lot people,” Golla said.”
In the Wisco area, you’ll probably see some cancellations, but the main thing is you’re going to see a huge drop in business.
So that will be an important driver.”
Gollan said the airport was in an unusual position.
“There’s no real airport right now in Waco,” he explained.
“It’s just a very small airport, about 50,000 people and there’s no other airports in the area.”
“So, it’s really important that we have a very well designed, well developed airport in place.
We’ve got a great team there and they’ve been very professional in their preparation.”
The other key player in the international travel business is the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).
In a statement, WFP said that it was “monitoring the situation closely” and was “deeply concerned” by reports of increased cases of the disease in the United Arab Emirates.
“The WFP is closely monitoring the situation in Wockhardt and neighbouring countries and is deeply concerned by the reported increase in cases of coronavirus,” the statement said.
A WFP spokesperson said the agency was monitoring reports of an increase in confirmed and probable cases in Dubai and that it had not received any reports of new cases in the UAE.
The United States has seen the greatest number of confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 2,788, the highest number of infections for any country in the world, according a report released by the World Health Organization.
But it is not clear whether any of those infections have spread to Waco or other areas in Texas.
The CDC, which advises the public on the symptoms of COID-19 and the virus, said it had received no reports of infections.
“I think the real concern for the health of the population is the increase in new cases, especially among the young,” said Dr. Bruce Hsu, a professor of infectious disease at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Houston.
“People who are going to have a bigger impact on their communities than any single person or group.”
Hsu said the virus was becoming a “very big issue” for health officials.
“So what you’re seeing right now is a lot more attention being paid to the young, and that is going to impact on the overall number of cases in terms of new infections,” he told ABC News.
“And I think we’re going be seeing a bigger number of new confirmed cases over the next two to three weeks.”
Hoshino said some local businesses in Woke, the city closest to the Texas border, are experiencing a spike of visitors from Texas, with some hotels closing due to a high number of travelers from the state.
“Some of these hotels have had a very high number [of visitors] in the past few days,” he added.
“The hotels are now having to close because they have to put up barriers.
So there’s a lot going on, and I think that’s a really good thing.”
In the United Kingdom, where the government is stepping up efforts to combat the spread of the virus in the UK, there have been concerns about the virus spreading from hotels to other public areas.
